As an applied behavioral scientist, Rick Olsen has pioneered numerous innovative programs to enhance human performance in both the academic and corporate world. Mr. Olsen has a wealth of experience and expertise in strategic management, leadership development, negotiations, and interpersonal and group effectiveness. Mr. Olsen has conducted corporate interventions in five countries and three languages. He published a weekly column on Strategic Development in both the US and Mexico for two years. Mr. Olsen worked as lead consultant and strategic analyst for many Fortune 500 companies. Mr. Olsen has consulted with numerous public schools, universities, government entities, and non-profit organizations.
Mr. Olsen offers a unique approach to grant writing. Participants learn new concepts and techniques not taught in standard grant writing courses. The capabilities, which are the focus of the first session, begin with solidifying a robust organizational strategy. Though most organizations believe they have a strategy, those strategies breakdown when reviewed closely. Funding sources detect weak organizational alignment which hurts any chances for funding.
The second capability focuses on a unique funding principle called the “Onion Strategy.” This strategy allowed a small private school to generate $800,000 per year for the last 10 years. The principal’s staff spends approximately 360 hours in grant writing per year. This is sixty 6 hour days. The income generated is over $2,000 per person hour.

Let’s face it: Most school, civic, and business reform models take funding. This means your team needs to become experts at writing grants. David Bowman, executive director of the Three Rivers Education Foundation, which just received more than $12 million in new grant funds, can help your team members learn to develop strong programs and make a compelling case for the funding your organization’s need.

Grant Writing Course (17 videos, 6+ hours)
Educators and parents have known for years that discipline in the arts (dance, painting, music, sculpturing, etc.) builds stamina, perseverance, attention to detail, self-analysis and contemplation. Carol Dweck in her book “Mindset” calls these abilities a “growth mindset.” These attributes translate effectively into academic growth and cognitive development, affecting all aspects of the educational curriculum and skills. Please watch a video from the New Mexico School for the Arts to see just how effective this can be.
Grant Writing is difficult—but not impossible. It is challenging—but achievable. When you understand the writing and application process, the major components, the critical decisions and considerations, and the review process, you can write a successful grant. The 6+ hour online workshop included herein will help you prepare competitive and successful grant proposals.
